Alibaba Group’s Platform Governance department is responsible for maintaining a fair and lawful business environment throughout the company’s e-commerce marketplaces—making it the first line of defense against cheating merchants, poor-quality goods, the sale of counterfeits and other deceptive business practices that undermine trust between buyers and sellers.

To chronicle its progress, the department published its 2016 annual report detailing the latest strategies and technologies used to combat bad business practices as well as Alibaba’s cooperation with law enforcement, government agencies and industry groups to foster orderly e-commerce markets and protect the rights of intellectual property holders.
