Alibaba Group is deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Tung Chee-hwa, former Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Hong Kong’s first Chief Executive, and a former independent director of our Company.

Mr. Tung served as our independent director from September 2014 to 2022. His invaluable contributions and unwavering support were instrumental to Alibaba’s development, and his global perspective helped the Company advance our internationalization as a global technology company founded and rooted in China.

Mr. Tung will be remembered as a visionary leader, a devoted patriot, and a man of exceptional kindness and honor. He led Hong Kong with courage, commitment, and foresight at the city’s inflection point, ensuring the SAR’s long-term prosperity and stability. He cared profoundly about how China was perceived internationally and worked to build bridges, foster dialogue, and promote greater mutual understanding between China and the world.

His wholehearted dedication to Hong Kong and the country, and his lifelong commitment to serving the best interests of the nation, will be remembered with enduring respect.
