Alibaba is expanding its artificial intelligence footprint through a strategic partnership with smartphone maker HONOR. This marks the first time Alibaba’s proprietary AI agents are directly integrated into mobile devices, enhancing user experiences with smarter interactions and services.
Announced during HONOR’s flagship foldable smartphone HONOR Magic V5 launch on July 2, the collaboration highlights Alibaba’s advanced AI model Qwen and specialized AI agents from Alibaba’s travel platform Fliggy and mobile digital map and navigation service Amap.
The HONOR Magic V5 leverages Alibaba’s Qwen3 large language model and Qwen-VL vision model to offer advanced intelligent interactions. HONOR’s AI assistant YOYO, powered by Qwen3, delivers deep document analysis for academic papers, medical reports, and financial statements, enhanced by integrated internet search capabilities. YOYO also supports innovative AI interactions, including conversational language practice, simulated business negotiations, and immersive role-playing exercises. Additionally, Qwen-VL’s visual processing capabilities enable the real-time recognition of surrounding architecture, landmarks, weather conditions, and even cuisine captured by the device’s camera.
Alibaba’s specialized agents from Fliggy and Amap, embedded into HONOR Magic V5 via YOYO, enable users seamless access to travel planning and location-based services through natural language interactions. Fliggy’s agent simplifies trip planning and bookings, while Amap offers users comprehensive navigation, mobility services, and lifestyle recommendations. Both agents have been incorporated into HONOR’s mobile ecosystem, including the agent store and service recommendation system.
This partnership aligns with Alibaba’s strategic emphasis on AI development, highlighted in its fiscal year 2025 report, where it identified “AI+Cloud” as a significant growth driver. Alibaba announced in February a planned investment of at least RMB 380 billion (US$53 billion) over the next three years to strengthen its cloud computing and AI infrastructure.
Earlier collaborations between Alibaba and HONOR integrated Alibaba’s large language models into HONOR’s flagship smartphone HONOR Magic7 series. Additionally, Alibaba’s AI technology has been incorporated into Xiaomi’s AI assistant, Xiao Ai, across its latest smartphones and the electric vehicle offerings.
This latest collaboration represents a significant advancement in China’s competitive AI landscape, reflecting a broader industry trend towards incorporating sophisticated AI capabilities into consumer mobile devices in the world’s largest mobile market.
