Alibaba Celebrates Olympic Day and Launches Alibaba Sports Day Across Worldwide Offices

  • Employees worldwide participate in mini-marathons, fitness challenges, and team tournaments
  • The celebration also marks the launch of the Alibaba Sports Day, promoting wellness, collaboration, and the Olympic spirit

Alibaba Group is celebrating Olympic Day on June 23 with a wave of athletic events across its global offices, from mini marathons and in-office fitness challenges to basketball match and football tournaments.

Olympic Day falls on June 23, the anniversary of the International Olympic Committee’s founding in 1894. The annual celebration encourages people worldwide to embrace sport and physical activity regardless of age, gender or athletic ability. For Alibaba, this year’s observance carries added significance as the company launches its Alibaba Sports Day, a new annual initiative designed to bring employees together through competition, teamwork and the Olympic spirit.

A Global Movement

At the company’s headquarters in Hangzhou, employees laced up for a 3.5-kilometer mini-marathon and competed in the finals of the Alibaba Football Tournament and a friendly basketball match. Meanwhile, employees from offices in China and overseas joined the movement with creative, localized activities, including office balloon volleyball, chopstick shuttlecock challenges, Wushu pose-offs, planks, and vertical jumps.

The geographic spread of the events reflects Alibaba’s global footprint. From Asia to Europe and beyond, employees are stepping away from their desks and into sneakers to celebrate the shared values of discipline, resilience and collaboration that underpin both elite sport and high-performance business.

“On this Olympic Day, I’m thrilled to celebrate with you the Alibaba Sports Day. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks for Alibaba’s incredible supports, especially your cloud and AI technology that is helping us shape the future of the Youth Olympics in Africa,” said Ibrahima Wade, general coordinator of the Dakar 2026, Youth Olympic Games Organizing Committee, “I encourage every one of you to embrace this spirit. Playing as One Team

The games are designed to do more than encourage physical activity; they aim to channel the competitive drive and collaborative energy of Alibaba’s workplace culture into a shared athletic experience. Whether running a mini marathon or competing in a football match, employees are encouraged to push personal boundaries and cheer for their teammates.

“From the UEFA Champions League and the NBA to the upcoming Dakar 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games, a passion for sports is lighting up this summer,” said Joe Tsai, Chairman of Alibaba Group. “Partnering closely with these world-class events, Alibaba will deliver cutting-edge technological innovations through our AI-powered cloud computing, and global e-commerce capabilities.”

Today, in celebration of Olympic Day, we are proud to launch the first-ever Alibaba Sports Day. We hope to inspire everyone to move from the sidelines and become the main characters of their own healthy lives.”
