Alibaba DAMO Academy Attended AI for Good Global Summit 2025.
Alibaba’s DAMO Academy has partnered with the United Nations International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to leverage artificial intelligence for addressing critical global challenges, including healthcare, climate change, and scientific research.
The announcement was made at the AI for Good Global Summit 2025, organized by the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, where DAMO Academy highlighted its commitment to advancing AI initiatives that promise transformative impact on millions, potentially billions, of lives.

Collaborating with the UN to Tackle Global Challenges
The partnership between DAMO Academy and the UN’s ITU will focus on expert exchanges, knowledge sharing, and joint initiatives, such as online lectures and offline events. Future cooperation may also extend to emerging areas, including robotics, embodied intelligence, and AI-powered video technologies.
Additionally, DAMO Academy has joined the UN-led AI Skills Coalition as a founding member. The coalition is a global platform aimed at AI capacity building, assisting governments, businesses, and organizations—particularly in less developed regions—in harnessing AI for sustainable development and better governance.
Expanding AI for Health in Singapore and Saudi Arabia
To further AI-driven healthcare, DAMO Academy announced collaborations in Singapore and Saudi Arabia. In Singapore, DAMO is working with NHG Health to enhance AI-powered medical research at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, one of the country’s largest multidisciplinary hospitals. The partnership targets improvements in early detection and diagnosis for pancreatic cancer, osteoporosis, breast cancer, and kidney masses, facilitating earlier, more effective treatments.
In Saudi Arabia, DAMO Academy has partnered with Abdul Latif Jameel Health to explore AI-assisted diagnostic tools for cancers such as pancreatic, gastric, and esophageal cancers, chronic diseases like cardiovascular conditions, osteoporosis, and fatty liver, as well as acute conditions including aortic syndromes and pulmonary embolism. By integrating DAMO’s AI technology with Abdul Latif Jameel Health’s extensive global network, the collaboration aims to democratize AI-powered healthcare solutions worldwide.
Recognition by the United Nations
DAMO Academy’s contributions to AI for Good initiatives have been recognized in the UN’s AI for Good Innovate for Impact Interim Report 2025. The report highlights DAMO Academy’s Baguan AI Weather Forecasting, which provides precise weather indicators supporting renewable energy planning, agricultural meteorology, and low-altitude weather forecasting.
Additionally, DAMO’s deep-learning system, DAMO PANDA, significantly enhances the detection of pancreatic lesions via non-contrast CT scans. More recently, DAMO Academy developed DAMO GRAPE, an AI framework achieving remarkable accuracy in identifying gastric cancer through 3D CT scan analysis. These innovations underscore DAMO Academy’s mission to harness AI for global impact.
