Jack Ma Foundation Donates Supplies to US to Combat Covid-19

The Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation recently announced a donation of medical supplies to the U.S. to help combat Covid-19.

In a statement posted on Twitter on Mar. 13, Alibaba Group Founder Jack Ma said: “Drawing from my own country’s experience, speedy and accurate testing and adequate personal protective equipment for medical professionals are most effective in preventing the spread of the virus.”

500,000 test kits and 1 million masks were delivered to the U.S. and received by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Earlier this month, the Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation jointly donated surgical masks to Japan and South Korea. The foundations have also sent test kits and masks to European countries, including Italy, Belgium and Spain, and have also committed support to all 54 nations in Africa.

“We can’t beat this virus unless we eliminate boundaries to resources and share our know-how and hard-earned lessons,” Ma said in the statement. His foundation has so far pledged $14.4 million toward coronavirus-relief efforts, which include donations to the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity in Australia and Columbia University to fund the research and development of vaccines and other treatments for the Covid-19 virus.
