Luxury Brands Bring Style to Year of the Pig



Chinese New Year is steeped in traditions, including shopping. It’s no surprise, then, that luxury brands would design items specifically for the holiday.

For the “Year of the Pig,” fashion houses from Bottega Veneta to Marni to Tod’s launched CNY-themed bags, shoes and accessories – and used Tmall Luxury Pavilion to reach their target consumers.

“Chinese New Year has long been a key marketing time for luxury brands, important for them to build a closer emotional connection with Chinese consumers,” said Lili Chen, general manager of Tmall Luxury Pavilion. “Every time this year, many luxury brands choose to introduce items in red, new crossover collaborations and branded red envelopes.”

Here’s a look at some of the best Chinese New Year fashions from this season:

Bottega Veneta

The Italian luxury house this year offered a selection of leather goods in festive red shades, from totes to high-heel boots, crafted with its signature intrecciato weave – as well as playful, pig-shaped key rings for a timely accessory.

 

Moschino

Porky Pig, the beloved Looney Tunes character from Warner Bros., is the star of Moschino’s limited-edition, streetwear-inspired collection for this Chinese New Year.

 

Marni

Marni’s 2019 CNY capsule collection includes apparel, footwear and accessories following the pig-theme as well, in addition to a new version of its “Law” handbag in the festive colors of red and pink.

 

Tod’s

Tod’s CNY Special Edition includes a tiny leather charm in the shape of a pig, which can be used to decorate bags, sneakers and smartphone cases.
