Alibaba Cloud Demos Green Tech at Olympic Esports Week 2023

The first-ever Olympic Esports Week was hosted in Singapore from June 22 to 25. As the worldwide cloud service partner of the International Olympic Committee, Alibaba Cloud provided its AI-driven sustainability solution, Energy Expert, to measure, analyze and manage the carbon emissions of the event’s temporary construction.

Energy Expert also deployed a mini-program to draw public attention to the growing environmental impact of gaming during Olympic Esports Week.

All these technologies were demonstrated at Alibaba Cloud‘s booth in the exhibition hall of Olympic Esports Week 2023.

Listen to Ken Xu, an esports enthusiast and solution architect, to learn more about Alibaba Cloud’s efforts to make esports sustainable, educational and inclusive.

Below is a transcript of this video, edited for clarity and brevity

Ken Xu: Welcome to the Olympic Esports Week 2023! My name is Ken Xu. I’m a solution architect from Alibaba Cloud in Singapore. I am honored to participate in the project partnering with the International Olympic Committee.

Here at the exhibition hall, partners of Olympic Esports Week are demonstrating their technologies and efforts in promoting esports. At Alibaba Cloud’s booth, a dashboard shows Olympic Esports Week’s carbon footprint and reduction.

The technology behind this is Alibaba Cloud’s Energy Expert, a software-as-a-service that monitors and visualizes carbon emissions.

For this event, Energy Expert provided carbon emission reduction measures for the organizer during the venue construction. Energy Expert also rolled out a mini-program to draw public attention to the growing environmental impact of gaming and share tips to encourage people to adopt a low-carbon lifestyle.

Alibaba Cloud also hosted industry-wide discussions during this Olympic Esports Week, sharing its innovations and technology know-how with the public.

Back at Alibaba Cloud’s booth, people can get a taste of what esports have to offer. These virtual ping pong and bike rides were developed by the Nanyang Technological University of Singapore. Alibaba Cloud is helping NTU scale the deployment of two games designed for the elderly. They can help senior citizens improve cognitive function and stay healthy even when they stay indoors.

As a solution architect and esports enthusiast, I’m so excited that the first-ever Olympic Esports Week is hosted in my hometown, Singapore. Through this event and with all the partners involved, you can see esports are not just fun but they can also be sustainable, inclusive and educational.
