Alibaba Cloud Supports Digital Transformation of Hangzhou Asian Games

The Hangzhou Asian Games, held from Sept. 23 to Oct. 8, is the first “Asian Games on the Cloud”.

The Games’ core system, including Games Management Systems, Results Distribution Systems and Game Support Systems, have been successfully migrated to Alibaba Cloud.

As a partner of the Hangzhou Asian Games, Alibaba Cloud provides the fundamental architecture that supports the seamless integration of the core systems and intelligent applications such as cloud broadcasting and event organization and communications.

It’s also the first time in the Asian Games history that rights-holding broadcasters (RHBs) will receive live footage through public cloud infrastructure powered by Alibaba Cloud.

“It’s our great honor to have this opportunity. We can provide our service to Hangzhou Asian Games,” said Selina Yuan, Alibaba Cloud’s President of International Business. “Taking advantage of the scalability, reliability and security of the cloud infrastructure, we can support Hangzhou Asian Games to operate more efficiently, sustainably and inclusively.”

Moving the core system of the Hangzhou Asian Games onto the cloud helps boost the organizer’s efficiency.

The core system of the Games uses cloud-native technologies and runs on Alibaba Cloud’s container services, which enable the Games operation to become more agile, scalable, and efficient.

We are also making live cloud broadcasting signals available for the Asian Games for the first time.

Prior to cloud broadcasting, broadcasters had to rely on dedicated and more costly international telecommunication optical circuits and spend a considerable amount of time to set up the equipment.

Now leveraging Alibaba Cloud, The Games is able to deliver live content in high quality over the public cloud at a fraction of the cost and with minimal time for setup.
