Celebrating International Women’s Day with Diane von Furstenberg

Fashion designer and businesswoman Diane von Furstenberg sat down with Alizila’s Julie Huang to talk about entrepreneurship, empowerment and supporting the next generation of female leaders.

Von Furstenberg is best known for her iconic wrap dress, but the Brussels-born founder of apparel line DVF is also a digitally-savvy entrepreneur streaming live from Alibaba B2C e-commerce platform Tmall.

In honor of International Women’s Day on March 8, she and her team of designers — including granddaughter Talita von Furstenberg — hosted a livestream to connect with their Chinese customer base and tell the story of DVF.

“People would ask me what I want to do when I grow up. I didn’t know what I wanted to do but I knew the kind of woman I wanted to be — a woman in charge,” von Furstenberg explained.

The brand founder moved to the U.S. in her early 20s and launched DVF in 1970. Today, von Furstenberg’s stylish yet functional printed dresses are the uniform of fierce, independent and driven women worldwide.
